Hudson Yards is indisputably the new epicenter of energy in Manhattan, and the go-to place for relishing some of the best views of NYC.
It is the hottest new neighborhood in Manhattan, dripping with so much appeal that you’ll forget to grumble about the obvious. It’s all over on 11th Avenue!
But never mind the minor logistical detail, Hudson Yards has a special brand of flair that enchants both locals and tourists alike.
The two outstanding reasons pumping life into this trendy space are: Edge and Vessel.
Edge NYC
Hudson Yards has put an exciting new spin on rooftop views.
The latest newcomer to the swanky Manhattan development is Edge, an observation deck that elegantly hangs in mid-air.
Edge rivals famous NYC viewpoints such as Top of The Rock and the Empire State Building for the best view of the NYC skyline.
Everything about this very elevated sky deck looks absolutely thrilling.
Imagine standing 1,100 feet above ground, tilting your body slightly forward and confronting the immensity of a city in perpetual prime time mode.
Nothing but glass separates you from NYC in motion. Unless, of course, you prefer to peer down at the city through the partial glass floors.
From the Edge, you can spot several of most iconic NYC attractions: the World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty and Central Park even. As an added bonus, it also includes awesome views of the Hudson River and New Jersey.
Chances are you may even have gotten a virtual tease of the airborne platform recently when it was transformed to a stage for the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards show.
The televised event featured singer, The Weeknd, and lots of fireworks. Fans were treated to a flashy performance of “Blinding Lights”, an apt choice to perform against the dazzling backdrop of the NYC skyline.
Next on the list of breathtaking NYC experiences is Vessel. Also compliments of Hudson Yards.
Vessel in Hudson Yards
Vessel in Hudson Yards is a stunning NYC landmark. I call this beauty as “the sweetest honeycomb in NYC”!
Everything about the Vessel seems honeybee-inspired. Its collection of hexagonal-like layers are reminiscent of a honeycomb.
And like a bee hive, its home to a sophisticated networking system. The interconnecting stairs are so elaborate that there’s no ruling out the possibility that architect, Thomas Heatherwick, may have commissioned worker bees to construct this sweet centerpiece in Hudson Yards.

Although the Vessel is still a relative newcomer (opened in March 2019) to the NYC’s ‘Best Attractions’ scene it has quickly become one of the top things to see in NYC.
From whichever angle you consider it, the hype seems well-deserved. The bronze masterpiece will take you completely by surprise with its sheer enormity, unique shape and glossy exterior.
The stunning structure is more than a pretty sight, however. It is an experience.
Can you go into the Vessel in NYC?
Previously, visitors to the Vessel in Hudson Yards were able to pre-book entry. The Vessel is now closed to visitors as safety mechanisms are installed. It is expected to reopen in late 2024.
Luckily, I visited many times prior to its closure and can give you a glimpse of what the experience inside the Vessel in Hudson Yards was like!
Going Inside the Vessel NYC
As soon as you enter the Vessel in Hudson Yards you will look up to see a labyrinth of steps weaving up and around for what seems like eternity.
It gives Jack and the Beanstalk vibes. What I mean by that is – you will feel the immediate desire to climb the sleek giant. Never mind it has close to 2, 500 steps…
Well before you reach the pinnacle, The Vessel will start rewarding you with views of other top sights in NYC.
Perhaps you will spot the glassy exterior of the Hearst Tower, or the iconic Empire State Building to the east.
As can be expected, the experience of New York’s Vessel and Edge feels quite special at sunset. When the Vessel NYC re-opens I recommend going for a late entry slot so that you can admire the sensational views of the NYC cityscape as night descends.

Early mornings are also surreal as a rare tranquility envelops this corner of Midtown West.
Whether it is enjoying the views from 1,100 feet above ground on the Edge, or 1,100 steps up on Vessel, a visit to Hudson Yards is a must-do when you’re in NYC.

Love these views! Can’t wait to start traveling again to be able to visit these places.
Right?! The views are spectacular and moreso because the angles from both The Edge and The Vessel give you such a variety!
The Vessell looks interesting. I will definitely check it out when I finally make it NYC. 😀
Hope you make it there! The Vessel is pretty awesome and when you go up you may definitely feel that surreal “I’m in NYC” vibe..
The pictures are awesome! The next time I’m in NYC I will definitely check out the Hudson Yards. I’m a little afraid of trying those stairs though. Thanks for giving us a look! ♥️😀
Thanks, Heather! The Vessel in particular is pretty striking even if you opt to only look. Or, if you decide to go up a couple landings you still get stellar street views of uptown Manhattan. I didn’t stay on the top landing too long myself…so high!
Wow what a incredible architecture. Literally its too beautiful. Thanks for this amazing post.
Oooh! The Edge looks amazing! I really need to get myself out to NYC one of these days. I really like the shape of the Vessel as well. Glad you had a great time out there!
